Good article. Good pointing out goiter-gens in cruciferous vegetables and that cooking these is better than raw. However, it is also important to note that millet and soy are also strong thyroid suppressors. Millet may not have gluten, but that is not the whole story. Very few people are actually celiac-sprue patients or gluten intolerant, so unless a blood test proves otherwise, gluten grains; wheat, barley, rye, oats... are fine for most people.

Better that than to eat millet and feel virtuous for not eating gluten and be suppressing your thyroid into a myriad of woes. Read ingredients for multi-grain breads that throw in everything but the kitchen sink. Not only do they often contain millet, but they may contain soy. They don't allow you to rotate your grains, creating sensitivity if used daily. Brown rice in moderation is good too.
Eat macrobiotically, which is really common sense, not necessarily to eat 'japonesque'. Eat in harmony with where you live, and the season.

“Every time I skipped dinner, my waist was a little bit smaller – and that’s what gave me the strength to get my appetite under control”
This is hardly a healthy way at looking to encourage a change in eating habits is it!
This is dangerous

Does anybody have an article or two explaining the reasons to avoid skim milk? My dad is mostly on board with all of the organic food and healthy fats, but he still insists that his skim milk is good for him. He's eating pretty well, but had a heart attack last year at age 54. I want him to keep on track! I need to find him some solid proof that skim milk is a no-no. Thanks!

Great info! Detoxification is a complicated process and shouldn't be done before learn some basics first. I check your blog once in a while and always find interesting reading.

Thank you so much for this post! It goes along w/ so much I am learning as I research the best way to cleanse... and is a far cry from what I was first told: "juice & fast"! I have 2 questions:

1) Cleansing & kids:
*Can I do milk thistle safely w/ them; what would the dosage be?
(I have Nature's Way: 175mg/capsule--standardized to 80% silymarin, but I've been hesitant to use it until I do more research.)
*I assume I could go ahead w/ the diet guidelines as recommended-- or do you have specific suggestions w/ regards to children?
(2 of my kids had Tylenol/OTCs as needed due to health issues, and 1 had steroids/albuterol etc before I learned that conventional medicine was not the answer. They get sick easy & 2 struggle with "permanent croup"-- which IS greatly improving as I work on cleansing. My youngest is barely 3; the others are 10 & 13. I have a 5 & 7 yr old too, tho they do better overall as they weren't exposed)

2) As I understand it, pork is highly toxic; is this another misguided belief?? (I have also heard beets are great for cleansing.)

Thank you!

The detox diet really helps in removing the toxins from our body, but according to me one should be very careful while using it because it has many kinds of side effects also.
